Heating Safety
#1. Space Heaters
• Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from flammable materials (curtains, furniture, bedding).
• Use heaters with an automatic shut-off feature to prevent overheating or tipping.
• Plug space heaters directly into wall outlets; avoid using extension cords.
• Turn off space heaters before leaving the room or going to bed.
#2. Electrical Safety
Avoid overloading electrical outlets with holiday lights, heaters, or appliances.
Inspect all cords and replace any that are frayed or damaged.
Never run electrical cords under rugs or furniture, as this can cause overheating.
#3 Candles and Open Flames
Use battery-operated candles instead of real ones.
If using real candles, keep them at least 12 inches away from anything flammable.
Always extinguish candles before leaving the room or going to bed.
#4 Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detectors
Install and test carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to prevent poisoning from heating appliances.
Test smoke alarms monthly and replace batteries as needed.
Keep a Fire extinguisher in a place where everyone knows in the event of a small Fire.
